Creative Minds: Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller

Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller are internationally recognized artists known for their immersive multimedia sound installations and their audio and video walks. Their beguiling and uncanny audio installation FOREST (for a thousand years...) will be presented by The Institute of the Arts and Sciences, in collaboration with SJMA UC Santa Cruz's Arboretum and Botanic Garden April 7 – June 30, 2018. The two will discuss their work in this special Creative Minds program. 

Celebrating San José’s New Mural of Hope

Join San José Museum of Art, Empire 7 Studios, and the Children’s Discovery Museum to celebrate the new public mural, Sophie Holding the World Together by El Mac in collaboration with The Propeller Group, at Discovery Meadow. Enjoy live music family-friendly activities, SJMA’s new Art Portal, and appearances by the artists and the subject of the mural, nine-year-old activist Sophie Cruz.

SJMA at Áo Dài Festival V

SJMA will bring its mobile art studio, Art Portal, to the Áo Dài Festival V, which showcases Vietnamese traditional dress, culture, and art in the Circle of Palms in front of SJMA.

SJMA at Tết Festival

SJMA’s Art Portal, a new art-making studio that will bring the Museum’s hands-on activities into the community, will make its debut this Saturday, February 24, at the Tết Festival at the Vietnamese-American Community Center, 2072 Lucretia Avenue, San José. Stop by and make some art!

Community Day: Lunar New Year

Welcome the Year of the Dog with art-making activities, cultural demonstrations, and live performances. This contemporary celebration honors Lunar New Year traditions commemorated around the globe and here in San José. 

Small Business Saturday

The Museum Store joins San Jose Downtown Association to encourage residents to “shop small” in local businesses. Get a free adult admission ticket to SJMA with a purchase of $25 or more in SJMA’s Museum Store on November 25.

F&B Voices from the Kitchen

La Cocina is pleased to offer SJMA members a special discount to their highly-acclaimed, twice-yearly storytelling series F&B Voices from the Kitchen, which will be performed live on-stage at SJMA. Each installment of F&B revolves around a specific theme, and this fifth installment will examine refuge through the lens of food.
