Q: Will SJMA have in-person camps in 2022?

A: Yes! Weeks 1–5 of our camps will be onsite at SJMA. Week 6 will be live virtual in order to provide options for families and for campers located outside of the San José area.

Q: What are the Covid safety measures?

A: SJMA will follow current Santa Clara County Health Department and CDC guidelines to determine if it is safe to hold art camps onsite. For in-person camp status check

Beginning Friday, February 4, 2022 SJMA will require proof of vaccination + booster shots for all eligible visitors—5 years and older.

Q: How will online art camps work if I register for Week 6?

A: During Week 6, Summer Camp will be held using ZOOM. Campers will be distributed a pre-camp preparation packet that details everything campers will need to know to be ready for camp. In short, the tech equipment basics are a computer or tablet with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection.

Each day will be led by an SJMA studio art educator and two SJMA gallery teachers—teaching live content to campers in a practiced format ideal to engage with each child. We have enhanced our camp program to add elements that wouldn’t be possible in our traditional, on-site camp—specifically, visits with professional guest artists that will conduct demonstrations to show campers the process of their work, as well as studio tours of their personal art studios!

For Week 6, ages 6–8 and ages 9–11, camp will be held 9am–12pm. For teens ages 12–14, camp will be held 1–4pm.

Q: What art supplies will my camper need?

A: We've got you covered! We've carefully selected art supplies for each week of each age range for camp and these curated art kits are included in the price of camp registration!

Q: What is the schedule for summer camp?

A: Information about the current Kids Summer Art camp schedule is located on the camp webpage

Q: Can I register for multiple weeks?

A: If your camper is age 6–8 or 9–11 note that there may be repeats of projects. Many campers enjoy the success that extra practice brings, whereas some campers do not.

Each week of our teen camp (ages 12–14) highlights a specialized deep dive into a variety of creative media and concept. Specialized weeks for teen camp include:

Week 2: 3D Sculpture

Week 3: Art and Activism

Week 4: Printmaking

Week 5: Digital Illustration and Animation

Week 6: Photography

Children will also benefit from our guest artists' studio tours, demos, and Q+As, as well as the opportunity to curate and exhibit their own artwork in our weekly artist's reception.
