Q: Are you open for registration? 
A: Early registration for summer 2023 begins Tuesday, February 7, 2023 for SJMA members at the Dual/Family level or above. General registration begins Wednesday, Feb 15, 2023.

Q: Will SJMA have in-person camps in 2023?
A: Yes! Weeks 1–5 of our camps will be onsite at SJMA. Week 6 will be live virtual in order to provide options for families and for campers located outside of the San José area and/or prefer the flexibility that online camp offers. . 


Q: What are the Health + Safety safety measures?
A: Masks are required for all campers and SJMA educators during KSAC 2023. SJMA has devised a comprehensive health and safety plan that is compliant with Santa Clara County Health Department and CDC guidelines. Please review these guidelines before camp begins. We will carefully and continually monitor the efficacy of these guidelines in real time and make further adjustments as needed. 

Thank you for helping us make Kids Summer Art Camp enjoyable and safe for all! If a camper has any symptoms of illness including, but not limited to: fever, sore throat, coughing, congestion, upset stomach, headache, please keep your camper at home. If a camper shows symptoms of illness during camp, the parent/caregiver will be notified to pick up their camper.  


Q: How will the Live Virtual online art camp work if I register for Week 6? 
A: During Week 6 (July 24–28, 2023), Live Virtual Summer Camp will be held using ZOOM. Campers will be distributed a pre-camp preparation packet that details everything campers will need to know to be ready for camp. In short, the tech equipment basics are a computer or tablet with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection.  An art supply kit is included with registration and can be picked up from SJMA prior to the online camp start date.    

Each day will be led by an SJMA studio art educator and two SJMA gallery teachers—teaching live content to campers in a practiced format ideal to engage with each child. 

For Week 6, camp will be held 9am–12pm, and will combine campers ages of 9–14. 

Description for Virtual Week: Visual Storytelling 
Join us this summer as you learn to express your ideas using the visual arts. Learn about printmaking, illustration, collage,  graphic novels and zine production. 


Q: What art supplies will my camper need? 
A: We've got you covered! We've carefully selected art supplies for each week of each age range for camp and these curated art kits are included in the price of camp registration! 

Please note: Art supplies for the Week 6, Live Virtual camp can be picked up from SJMA prior to the camp start date. 


Q: What is the schedule for summer camp?

Q: How do I prepare for the first day of camp? 
A: The week prior to your campers' registered week of camp, you will receive a 'welcome' email with helpful information including first day of camp orientation, drop-off and pick-up policies, camp schedule and expectations, camper exhibition info, etc. Please be sure to check the email that you registered your camper with for this 'welcome' email (including your spam folder.)


Q: Can I register for multiple weeks?
A: If your camper is age 6–8 or 9–11 note that most of the curriculum repeats. Many campers enjoy the success that extra practice brings, whereas some campers do not.

Q: Are scholarships available?
A: Yes! We have scholarships available! If your camper is in need of a scholarship in order to attend camp, please email us at Please note, we have one scholarship per age group per week available, please inquire early.


Q: What kind of art projects will campers be working on?
A:  SJMA gallery teachers and studio art educators will engage campers in art lessons and collaborative, interactive tutorials that will keep kids active, social, and challenged with a variety of teaching styles in drawing, painting, mixed media, and found object/recycled household items as our starting point for art-making. Our enhanced format includes STEAM-based art and science weekly projects taught by an industry-leading engineering educator. Children will also benefit from guest artists', demos, and Q+As, as well as the opportunity to curate and exhibit their own artwork in our weekly artist's reception.


Q: What is your cancelation and refund policy?
A: Fees are refundable if requested before Thursday, June 1, 2023 ($35 processing fee applies). No refunds will be given starting Thursday, June 1, 2023. Please contact us at

The San José Museum of Art has the right to cancel the camp, in which case fees are 100% refundable. Registration is not transferable.
