Join SJMA's assistant curator Kathryn Wade as she shares her new research into Jean Conner, a new artist to SJMA's permanent collection.

Although largely unrecognized until only recently, Jean Conner has worked in collage for over fifty years. Using large format color magazines for source material, Conner culls glossy advertisements, including images of exotic destinations and beauty icons from magazines such as Look and Life, and places them together with plants and animals from sources like National Geographic. With meticulous attention to scale, contour, and color, Conner constructs fantastical, lurid compositions with often sly humor.
