SJMA's ArtRage Continues March 21

Release date

SAN JOSE, California (March 4, 2013)—The San Jose Museum of Art’s popular after-hours series “ArtRage” will continue on Thursday, March 21, from 7 to 10 PM. The evening will feature music, cocktails, and creative activities inspired by the exhibitions Rising Dragon: Contemporary Chinese Photography and New Stories from the Edge of Asia: This/That. DJ Coco will spin C-pop, J-pop, and K-pop music. Creative activities for adults will include a DIY Art project, a photobooth, and face-painting inspired by artists such as Huang Yan, Zhang Huan, Cao Fei, and Mail Order Brides/M.O.B., who use facepaint or theatrical makeup in their work. ArtRagers are encouraged to try out M.O.B.’s installation, Karaoke Trilogy, while exploring the galleries. The specialty cocktail for the evening will be the Red Lotus. Beer, wine, and food is also available for purchase at Café Too. Admission is $5 (no-host bar). Tickets are available online at sanjosemuseumofart.org/event/artrage-mar-2013.

Rising Dragon comprises some 100 photographs by 36 of China’s most prominent young photographers. Many of the artists experiment with new, digital photographic processes to create images filled with humor, artifice, and pop excess. New Stories from the Edge of Asia presents works by Asian-American artists who explore new narrative territory using animation, digital media, video, and film. The galleries are open 11 AM to 10 PM on March 21.
