SAN JOSE, California (February 11, 2011)—The San Jose Museum of Art’s popular “DIY Art” series will continue on Saturday, February 26, with two workshops by artist Trimpin at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  Trimpin is an internationally renowned sound sculptor, composer, and inventor. In each two-hour workshop, attendees will work with Trimpin to create musical sculpture and perform a symphony using found objects. Participants are encouraged to bring their own kitchen gadgets from home. Tickets are $20 ($12 members); each ticket admits two adults or one adult and one child (ages 8 and older). Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to 15 pairs per workshop, and advance purchase is recommended. Tickets are available online at www.artsopolis.com.

Trimpin’s remarkable musical creations include If VI Was XI (2000), a 50-foot tower of more than 500 guitars, and Klompen (1987), a work made of 96 Dutch wooden shoes. He was honored with the “genius grant” from the MacArthur Foundation in 1987. Trimpin will stage a full opera at Stanford Lively Arts on May 14, 2011.
