SAN JOSE, California (December 10, 2010)— The San Jose Museum of Art will launch a new series of Lunchtime Lectures on Wednesday, January 5, 2011. The free lectures will take place on the first Wednesday of the month from noon to 1 PM through May 4. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch into the Wendel Education Center during the talk. Café, Too! at the Museum will also offer a selection of box lunches for purchase on lecture days. Admission to the lectures is free; regular Museum admission applies to the galleries. The first speaker will be artist and educator Griff Williams on January 5. Williams is the owner of Gallery 16 and Urban Digital Color in San Francisco. His topic will be “Yes, But Is It Art?: Artmaking in a Digital Age.” He will explore the challenges of making and viewing new media and digital art.

- Wednesday, February 2, 2011: “Race, Gender, and Sexual Identity in Contemporary Photography,” Ron Herman, chair of the photography department at Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, California;
- Wednesday, March 2, 2011: “Understanding and Collecting Contemporary Indian Art,” Dipti Mathur, collector;
- Wednesday, April 6, 2011: “A Historical Survey of Indian Modern Art,” Santhi Kavuri-Bauer, San Francisco State University; and
- Wednesday, May 4, 2011: “Difference and the Politics of Identity in Contemporary Art,” Jordana Moore Saggese, assistant professor of visual studies at California College of the Arts, San Francisco and Oakland.
