SAN JOSÉ, California (October 6, 2017) — Roz Chast, one of the most celebrated cartoonists in the United States, will speak at the San José Museum of Art on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 7 PM. Chast is well-known for her contributions to The New Yorker, which has published more than a thousand of her cartoons since 1978. Chast will speak about her new graphic memoir, Going into Town: A Love Letter to New York, an illustrated ode, guide, and appreciation to Manhattan. The lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets are available online at SanJoseMuseumofArt.org. Advance reservations are recommended as seating is limited. Copies of Going into Town as well as Chast’s New York Times #1 bestselling graphic memoir Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? will be available for sale before and after the lecture. The Museum will be open from 6 – 9 PM.
Roz Chast attended the Rhode Island School of Design, with a major in painting. Her cartoons have appeared in Scientific American, the Harvard Business Review, Redbook and Mother Jones. Chast has lectured widely and is the recipient of honorary doctorates from the Pratt Institute, New Yor; Art Institute of Boston; and Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire. Chast has also illustrated children’s books, including The Alphabet from A to Y, with Bonus Letter, Z by Steve Martin. A retrospective exhibition of Chast’s work, Cartoon Memoirs, was on view at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, San Francisco, April 27, 2017 ‒ September 4, 2017.
