SAN JOSÉ, California (May 21, 2018) — The San José Museum of Art will celebrate San José’s vibrant maker community and DIY culture with a free Community Day on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 11 AM – 5 PM. Maker Day honors Silicon Valley’s history of creative innovation and encourages visitors to create and reimagine material objects. The celebration is free and open to the public. It includes a day of live demonstrations, presentations, and art-making activities. Reservations are encouraged and are available at sjmusart.org/maker.
This Maker Day will bring Massachusetts-based artist Jason Chase, who will present and demonstrate how he uses Nanolab’s Singularity™ Black paint for his own artworks. Singularity™ Black was originally invented for NASA and has the lowest visible reflectance of any paint, reducing light reflectance on optics.
Highlights include:
- A demonstration and presentation from artist Jason Chase about Singularity™ Black at 1 and 3 PM;
- Sticker Critters with Local maker Darius B’Alexander;
- SJMA doodle-bots drawing station;
- Art-making stations with DIY felt patches, “Tapigami” flower pencils, and DIY marble magnets.
Community Day is sponsored by Adobe. Programs at SJMA are made possible by the generous operating support from the City of San José’s Cultural Affairs grant.
