Lunchtime Lecture: Thanksgiving on Mars: Planning for Space Migration Human exploration throughout history has been linked with different modes of mobility, and oftentimes, follow-on migrations and even settlement. So it is with space exploration. As part of the collaboration New Terrains: Mobility and Migration, Margaret S. Race, Senior Scientist, Planetary Protection at the SETI Institute will discuss astrobiology and searches for extra-terrestrial life in our solar system. Lunchtime Lectures take place on the first Wednesday of the month at noon in the Charlotte Wendel Education Center. Visitors are welcome to bring food and beverages. SETI Institute
Third Thursday: Exotopia Exotopia is a virtual reality installation where visitors can explore all the known exoplanets — thousands that have been discovered in the last 20 years. Exotopia generates a universe of extra-solar worlds based on mass, proximity to their sun, orbital path and their habitability index. They range from surreal to mundane with colorful atmospheres and clouds. Visitors to this installation can “fly” to these worlds and explore how the planets might look – from planets containing with algae-filled oceans, rocky formations, toxic clouds, icy crusts, and more. The VR experience acts as a map to future exploration of the galaxy. SETI Institute |
