Join us for an observation-based, scientific inquiry of Beta Space: Patty Chang and David Kelley. Attendees will be guided through the exhibition by Studio Arts Educator (SAE) Shelby Hendricks, exploring the artwork through the lens of a naturalist. Become a marine biologist by diving into the realm of the deep sea and learn about the lives of the creatures who call this unique ecosystem home. This visual and tactile experience welcomes guests of all ages to connect with the more-than-human.
Walk with a Naturalist is limited to 20 attendees of all ages. Space is limited, and advance registration is strongly recommended. Advance registration includes Museum admission.
About The TOUR
The “Walk with a Naturalist” family tour features an observation-based, scientific exploration of Beta Space: Patty Chang and David Kelley with tactile experiences offered by SAE Shelby Hendricks. Guests will be guided through the exhibition using VTS-based inquiries of the artwork on display to help conceptualize the artists’ vision of animal and mineral pasts, presents, and futures of the deep sea. By learning more about the natural history of the featured organisms that occupy deep sea environments, guests will discover ways to connect and care about these otherwise “alien-looking” creatures, and furthermore, the more-than human importance of protecting these natural areas. In this way, the cross-disciplinary tour will offer an opportunity to help humanize the sciences and reinforce the emotional impact of caring for endangered species.
