Love, Loss, Life: A historical and musical journey across San José through the voices of Vietnamese, Chicano, and African American communities.

The opening act is comprised of conversations with community representatives including Rosanna Alvarez and Leon Beauchman who will talk about the contributions of the Chicano, African American, and Vietnamese immigrants to San José's rich culture and history.

This will be followed by the music that was inspired by these stories, created and performed by Emmy-award winning musician and composer Vân-Ánh Võ. Using first-person narratives as both the foundation and inspiration for her work, Võ has created a performance that explores shared experiences and the common threads that bind us together as a nation. Love, Loss, Life also features world-class musicians Jimi Nakagawa, Joshua Mellinger, and Mikhael Khalikulov.

Speakers and artists will engage in an interactive Q+A session with the audience at the end.

Mosaic Silicon Valley

Mosaic Silicon Valley, a Sangam Arts initiative, aims to strengthen our rapidly diversifying community through intercultural arts and dialog.

As our society becomes increasingly diverse culturally, we need a new paradigm that creates opportunities for cross-cultural understanding and allows diverse people to come together as Americans while celebrating what makes us unique. Mosaic Silicon Valley bridges cultural communities by presenting new works by artists working collaboratively with dance and music traditions disparate from their own.
