Third Thursday: Art:21 Screening and Poetry Invitational

The San Jose Museum of Art’s monthly third Thursday open evenings continue. Activities are free with Museum admission of $5 after 5 PM (free to Museum members). The galleries, café, and Museum Store will be open until 8 PM.

At 5:15 PM, the Museum will screen Episode 1: Change of the Peabody Award-winning documentary series Art in the Twenty-First Century. Episode 1 features artists El Anatsui, Catherine Opie, and Ai Weiwei. Opie’s photograph, Melissa & Lake, Durham, NC, a highlight of SJMA’s collection, will be on view for the screening.

At 6:30 PM, the Museum will present its third annual Poetry Invitational in collaboration with Poetry Center San Jose. Sally Ashton, Santa Clara County’s poet laureate, has invited other Bay Area poets to visit the Museum and write poems inspired by the art on view.
