Curator's Workshop: Worlds in Collision with Lauren Schell Dickens
In 2019, SJMA's senior curator Lauren Schell Dickens was awarded a curatorial research grant by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to research contemporary art practice in the Philippines and its diaspora. Lauren's goal is to explore the country as a web of connections and networks, simultaneously geographies of landscape, imagination, affinity, and interaction. Her first research trip planned for February 2020 was canceled due to COVID-19.
Please join us as Lauren discusses some of her early-stage research, artists who are shaping her thinking, and the pitfalls of speaking about contemporary Filipinx art from her own perspective as a Filipina American.
