1 – 2 PM The Thing Quarterly Talk at SJMA
Every year, editors Jonn Herschend and Will Rogan invite four artists, writers, musicians, or filmmakers to create a useful object that somehow incorporates text. The result is The Thing Quarterly. Subscribers to this unique “publication” have received everything from a silkscreened vinyl window shade by Miranda July (issue 1) to a lipsticked-mirror and poster by James Franco (issue 14).
In this program presented by the San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA) and the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Herschend and Rogan will discuss their unique collaborative projects and the realm of artists’publications. Following the talk, explore the influence of literature and the traditional the book on visual art in the exhibition Book-ish. Then head over to ICA (just a few blocks south of SJMA, at 560 South 1st Street) to consider process and repetition through a tour of the group exhibition, One Thing Leads to Another. While at the ICA, program attendees are invited to attend a demonstration and wine reception in the ICA Print Center from 3 – 5 PM.
