In The Ground Beneath Her Feet, Salman Rushdie retells the Orpheus myth with a female Indian rock star. Through a single photograph of this beloved celebrity, Rushdie explores the loss of countless lives in an earthquake. Similarly, Jitish Kallat, featured in South East North West, explores time, historical recall, and the hyperfocused individual perspective within an urban framework. We will look at how focusing on the loss of a single person allows us to mourn for a larger unknown population.
