Public Notice

Dear SJMA Community,

We are writing to inform you that San José Museum of Art has made the difficult decision to temporarily close the Museum, Store, and Café (el cafecito) until further notice. The health and safety of our visitors, staff, volunteers, and community members is our highest priority. In keeping with the guidelines issued by the State of California, County of Santa Clara Public Health Department, and the City of San José, we join many organizations around the world in taking this important action to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Our closure is part of a best-practices effort rather than a response to an exposure; to our knowledge, no SJMA visitor or staff person has tested positive for coronavirus.

We will continue to monitor developments and regularly assess this temporary closure. In addition to our on-site tours and public programs, we are temporarily suspending our off-site education programs through April 17. Tickets purchased for any public programs through April 17 will be refunded. To reschedule a pre-booked SJMA visit, or if you have any further questions, please contact 408.291.5393 or

We believe that art can keep us connected and inspire creativity and generosity. To continue to connect to our community, we want to share some ways you can experience art through the SJMA YouTube channel, website, and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Your well-being is our highest priority and we continue to monitor the coronavirus situation on a daily basis. We encourage you to keep current through the following websites:

World Health Organization (WHO):

Center for Disease Control and Prevention:

City of San José:

We will keep in touch and hope this effort helps to flatten the transmission opportunities. We wish everyone health and well-being, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Museum soon.

S. Sayre Batton
