Harry Powers is deeply invested in amplifying the boundaries of linear perspective. In his practice, Powers seeks to integrate art and architecture, painting and sculpture, the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, through a combination of ancient and contemporary concepts of art history, mythology, anthropology, and physics. With a focus on intuition and inner feeling, he threads together his interests in astronomy and the night sky, dramatic lighting, the Renaissance, and primal cultures.
In the 1970s, Powers developed new techniques to use sheet acrylic for sculpture. He explores synchronizations of color, light, movement, and continuously shifting perspective. As Powers explained, the color transparencies, projections, and reflections of light in his sculptures and their surroundings harmonize to create a type of “painting with light.”
