Lorie Novak (1954 - )

The House Imaginary (2018)
We all piece memories together from photographs, and much of Lorie Novak’s work begins with family photographs that her father took during her childhood. Novak uses them as slides which she projects into domestic environments and photographs. In Doorway Shadows, a white picket fence and window from a childhood photograph are projected onto a present-day foyer. Exterior and interior, past and present, memory and reality, collapse into a single disorienting image.
