Last Days of Dylan Thomas (1953) commemorates the death in 1953 of one of Kelly’s favorite poets, who frequented North Beach’s popular Beat hangout, the Vesuvio bar. Composed of a flurry of snowflake-like daubs against a dark abyss, the painting makes reference to Thomas’s much-loved short story, Child’s Christmas in Wales.
