Biography

Markus Linnenbrink was born in Dortmund, Germany.  He attended the Gesamthochschule in Kassel from 1982-85 and the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin from 1985-88.  His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions including shows at the Museum Neue Galerie, Kassel; the Hammer Museum, University of California, Los Angeles; the Museum Katharinenof, Kranenburg, Germany; the Kunstmuseum, Bonn; the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut; the Tucson Museum of Art, Arizona; and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.  His work is featured in the permanent collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Hammer Museum, University of California, Los Angeles; the Herzliya Museum of Art, Israel; and the the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, among others.  Linnenbrink currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.      

This would be the first work by Linnenbrink to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2011)
