Biography

Robert Brady was born in Reno, Nevada in 1946.  He received his BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, CA, in 1969, and his MFA from the University of California at Davis in 1975.  Brady has taught art at California State University, Sacramento since 1975.  As a student, Brady established himself in the Bay Area as a leading figurative sculptor.  He primarily explores the human figure, with an emphasis on spiritual and mythological archetypes.  His work is represented in the permanent collections of The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu; Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Oakland Museum of California; Renwick Gallery, Washington, D.C.; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

This would be the first work by Robert Brady to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2009)
