Biography

Born in Hayward, California in 1960, Laurie Long attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her BA in the History of Art in 1983. In 1996 she graduated from San Francisco State University with an MFA in Photography. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at institutions including Musee de la Photographie - Charleroi, Belgium; Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, Germany; Houston Museum of Fine Arts; Triton Museum of Art; and California Museum of Photography, Riverside. She has been awarded numerous residencies in places including the Czech Republic, Austria, Portugal, Germany and most recently at Gasworks in London. Her work is in the collections of the Southeast Museum of Photography in Daytona Beach, Musee de la Photographie - Charleroi, Belgium, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. This would be the first work by Long to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2005)
