Biography

Michael Light was born in Florida in 1963. He received his M.F.A. in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1993. His work has been exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. It has also been shown internationally at such venues as the Hayward Gallery, London; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; and Contemporary Art Gallery, Art Tower Mito, Japan. His work is held in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. This would be the first piece by the artist to enter the Museum’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2006)
