In A House of Many Rooms, Zarina Hashmi paired maplike drawings with poetic phrases. Together, they describe an intricate architecture and a profound loneliness: Once I lived in a House of Many Rooms/ I walked from room to room/ Touching the walls/ Boundaries of despair. Hashmi created the prints in reference to the Paris apartment where she lived for a short time with her diplomat husband. The Minimalist modular repetition provides a rhythm that adds to the emotional resonance. |
