In Voice of Innocence, G.R. Iranna reconfigures bags commonly used in India to carry water, which are made from a skin of a goat. The nine “carcasses,” with “bound feet,” hang upside-down, like meat in a butcher shop. A mouth-shaped element protruding from the corner of each bag suggests the animal’s voice is still audible. Within the context of Iranna’s related work, these slaughtered animals call to mind suffering and politically driven massacres such as the Holocaust.
