Lunchtime Lecture: Monarch Butterflies... a Species of Wonder, a Species in Crisis

12–1 PM
Free with Museum admission

As Diana Thater captures in Untitled (Butterfly Videowall #2) (2008), on view in the exhibition Indestructible Wonder, the monarch butterfly is a beautiful symbol of a changing world. These insects have adapted to many dramatic changes on Earth for eons. Mia Monroe is a volunteer with the Xerces Society and local coordinator of the Western Monarch Thanksgiving Count. Monroe will explore the dramatic life cycle, the unbelievable migration, and newly discovered biology of the monarch butterfly. Learn what is being done to protect the monarch throughout the west and tips on viewing these butterflies at a local overwintering site.

Lunchtime Lectures take place on the first Wednesday of the month at noon in the Charlotte Wendel Education Center. Visitors are welcome to bring food and beverages.

Spring 2017 Lunchtime Lecture Season will return Jan 4.
