Explore the intersections of sight and sound, of visual art and popular culture at this special evening.
6 PM / San Jose Jazz presents John Worley
Trumpeter John Worley will improvise to the wild and wacky robotic movements of Alan Rath’s Absolutely (2012). Worley is an accomplished trumpet/flugelhorn/post-horn artist and leader of the bands Mo-Chi Quartet, WorlView and Bari Bari. He has performed with national and international artists in Canada, Europe, Central America, and North America. He will play music in response to Rath’s sculpture, a robotic work that modifies, rather than repeats, its own movements. Custom-designed software and motion detectors ensure that the feathered sculpture moves at-will and “falls asleep” when no one is around. Worley’s performance is included in admission, which is $5 after 5 PM (free to members).
