Community Day: Día de los Muertos

Celebrate El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with live performances, cultural demonstrations, and artmaking experiences for the whole family. Decorate calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls), explore other traditional activities, and connect with your community for an all-day, very contemporary celebration. Hands-on artmaking will include Day of the Dead printmaking, papel picado banner design, and sugar skull decorating! Café Too! will also offer kid-friendly options this Saturday.

Save time in line by ordering and printing your tickets in advance. Advance reservations will close 24 hours before program start time. On-site drop-in registration will be available day of.

Schedule of events

  • 11 AM – 4:30 PM: Hands-on artmaking for all ages
  • 11 AM – 5 PM: See a larger-than-life paper mache Skeleton, or Catrina, sculpture
  • 11 AM – 5 PM: Local artist Lissa Jones will display a traditional altar, or ofrenda, in the cafe area of the Museum
  • 11:15 AM – 12 PM: Traditional Aztec musical and dance performance by Calpulli Tonalehqueh
  • 12 – 1:30 PM: Take your photo with roaming skeleton performers
  • 1:30 – 4 PM: Ofrenda demonstration by Phyllis Carrasco
  • 2:15 – 3 PM: Music by Mariachi San José
