Marion Cilker Conference for Arts in Education

11:30am–1pm | Online

This annual event for teachers is devoted to demonstrating the importance of integrating the arts into the classroom curriculum. Co-sponsored by the Connie L. Lurie College of Education at San José State University and the Santa Clara County Office of Education, the conference features two days of professional development addressing the conditions of the new environment of learning and teaching, by curating sessions with a strong focus on integrated learning, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching through the arts while continuing to feature standards-based workshops in the arts and arts integration. In the true spirit of the arts, workshops will continue to exemplify creativity, excellence, and cultural inclusivity.

On Saturday, November 7, SJMA education department will present Developing an Accessible Lesson Plan for Visual Art: Overlay Portrait Project, a workshop drawing upon artwork from the current exhibition Barring Freedom to address issues of equity in culture, visual art, and the classroom.
