Watch virtual and real, ancient and contemporary worlds come together in this participatory public art parade. A twenty-first- century version of the Trojan Horse, conceived in the online community Second Life and accompanied by “Greek” warriors, will make its way through downtown San Jose and “invade” the Museum. The San Jose Museum of Art and ZERO1 commissioned this monumental Gift Horse (2010), made by artists Scott Kildall and Victoria Scott using sustainable materials. You, too, can be part of this creative performance. From September 4 to 14, visit the 2010 01SJ Biennial at South Hall, next to the San Jose Convention Center, and make a folded paper sculpture to place inside Gift Horse.

Join the crowd beginning at 11 am on September 18 for the 2010 01SJ Green Prix, after which the artists will reenact the ancient Greek saga by “gifting” their horse, with its secret contents, to the San Jose Museum of Art. Once inside, the artists will open a trap door and the public’s viral DIY artworks will invade the Museum. Gift Horse will remain on view for the duration of Retro-Tech.
