Art 101: Textile Design

Registration is $30 ($15 for members)

In conjunction with the exhibition Beauty, join SJMA for a hands-on examination of textile design. Artists Carissa Potter and Heather Van Winckle of Oakland-based printmaking shop and creative brand People I’ve Loved lead this informal, interactive workshop. Learn to use design principles and experiment with composition, repetition, and color to create your own textile pattern. 

ART 101 is limited to 25 participants ages 13 and up. Space is limited and advance registration is strongly recommended.

Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial

SJMA is the only West Coast venue for the latest global overview of design today, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s popular contemporary design triennial. The New York Times heralded the exhibition as “an exciting opportunity to meditate on the perennially confounding questions: What is beauty? And what is it good for?” With projects ranging from experimental prototypes and interactive games to fashion and architectural structures made feasible by material innovations and nanotechnology, “Beauty” will feature more than 200 works by 63 designers from around the globe.
