Join Juan Omar Rodriguez, assistant curator, as he explores the materiality of memory through artworks in SJMA’s collection.

We are able to store vast amounts of information in ourselves, but our memory has its limits. In light of the predicament of an increasingly expanding universe of information, how do we prioritize what to keep in mind? Artists have long been interested in grappling with the problems of memory—how it’s made, stored, and accessed. Their investigations can help us appreciate the possibilities and issues of the tools we use to make memory.
