Collection Highlights (2002-2004)

Dazzling the eye with vibrant pastel color and hypnotic motion, Jennifer Steinkamp's double-sided DVD projection is a painting created with a palette of light. The pattern on the screen moves either in a concave (on one side) or convex (the other side) manner, before springing back like a rubber band to its resting state. This “to-and-fro” motion reflects the passage of visitors from one gallery to the next.

Parallels and Intersections: Art/Women/California 1950-2000 (2002)

In my work the computer is used to create abstracted motion and points of view that are not available by any other means. These are then fit into architectural situations where the work can be experienced through the body. The non-physical components of computer imagery and light are manifested as corporeal. Often the motion, sound, or choice of imagery creates a shift between objective and subjective points of view.
