Lynn Hershman's interactive installation considers the passive approach of women who often leave the course of their life to fate—as opposed to the self-determination espoused by the Feminist movement. Based on the fictional story of an agoraphobic woman named Lorna, who is fearful of leaving her tiny apartment and who has difficulty making choices for herself, the installation invites viewers to use the remote control to make decisions for her. Unable to navigate her life, the ending of the story is limited to three potential outcomes: 1) death by suicide, 2) escape via air travel, and 3) destruction of the television.
