It's About Time: Celebrating 35 Years (2004-2005)

Sam Richardson engages memory and emotion in order to create works that are familiar and accessible but also poetic. Worn materials and brooding colors symbolize the uncertainty of his recollections as they fade with the passing of time. Assembled from multiple panels, the piece resembles two adjacent rooms joined by an open doorway. An oddly undersized staircase protrudes from the wall of the front room. Vaguely abstracted, the image suggests an intriguing narrative; but Richardson holds back the details of his past, leaving his viewers to fill in the blanks.
