Momentum: An Experience in the Unexpected (2014-2015)

Manchester’s powerful piece is a reminder that stillness is too, a type of movement. Manchester primarily uses light as a vehicle for both structure and emotive effect in this work. The stationary figure, a former teaching colleague of hers, combines with the circular motion of the chair in a composition that can be seen as playful incongruity. The title Solstice refers to strong winter light, and a contemplative moment in time.
