from the exhibition It's About Time: Celebrating 35 Years, 2004-2005.

Consistent with her roots in the San Francisco School of Abstract Expressionism, Sonia Gechtoff relies on fluid gestures to capture the aesthetic and emotional qualities of the natural environment. Winged Moon orchestrates the marriage of freedom and form by combining the loose, organic form of the moon with studied markings of graphite pencil. Suspended in a sea of energetic, flame-like lines, the lunar sphere appears to spin rapidly as if ready to take flight.
