City Limits, City Life (2014-2015)

After spending a semester in Las Vegas while teaching at the University of Nevada, Carson made a series of vinyl banners inspired by the blunt graphic design of tourist attractions, casino signs, and slot machines. With her characteristic brand of comic, boldfaced sincerity, the banners employ low-rent graphic design to convey elemental, spiritual truths.

The design of this poster references street art and recalls works produced quickly and secretly in order to enter the public sphere. Cities create charged political environments and often lack the resources to offer communities opportunities for expression. Street art creates a space where art thrives as a low cost opportunity to reach large groups of people.
