Post-Portrait (2014-2015)

A year after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Chinese photojournalist Wang Yao arrived in the United States for a year-long stay as a visiting scholar. As she walked around New York, Wang Yao was surprised to find most of the city intact and the people she observed seemingly unaffected or recovered from the attacks. Her perceptions changed quickly when she started talking with her subjects as she photographed them. The two couples in Untitled (Eskimo Kiss) seem to see only their partners—so absorbed in gazing into each others’ eyes that they do not notice the watching photographer.
