Bookish (2011-2012)

Stella Waitzkin’s obsessive “library” installations filled her small apartment in New York’s Chelsea Hotel from floor to ceiling. Waitzkin lived at the Chelsea for thirty-five years—one of the hotel’s legendary roster of artists, writers, and musicians. She cast ornately bound books and stacks of books in resin, as if to arrest them in time and hermetically preserve and protect the knowledge held between their covers. Like cherished memories, her books are hauntingly inaccessible and removed from reality.
