Beyond Tradition: Permanent Collection Photographs (2003-2004)

Rudy VanderLans, born in the Netherlands, responds to the high-desert terrain of California with the objective insights of an outsider. He creates images that encourage us to question our societal impulse to populate and inhabit these desolate regions. Irrigated golf courses, tract homes, battered mailboxes, and dusty Yucca trees all gain center stage in these digital color photographs.

Exhibition

Beyond Tradition: Permanent Collection Photographs, September 27, 2003 - August 22, 2004, Historic Wing, Paul L. Davies Gallery, Second Floor, San José Museum of Art.
