It's About Time: Celebrating 35 Years (2004-2005)
This painting is part of a series united by Long Nguyen’s use of golden hues and inspired by a Vietnamese antiwar song called Vietnamese Girl with Yellow Skin. Motivated by the song and a range of associations with the color, Nguyen’s series reflects his evolution as an artist. Communicating the trauma of a wartime refugee’s life in a graceful language of symbolic forms, the paintings ultimately transcend their specific origins, becoming universal stories of human suffering and renewal.
