Momentum: An Experience in the Unexpected (2014-2015)

Villareal is a pioneer in the use of LEDs and computer-driven imagery and is known both for his light sculptures and architectural, site-specific works, most recently the Bay Lights. This commission from 2012 is the first piece in a completely new body of work that Villarreal was starting at the time and builds upon his experiments with diffusion, using translucent sheets of acrylic to create soft and subtle color shifts.
