Momentum: An Experience in the Unexpected (2014-2015)
Jim Campbell explores the intersection of art and technology in dynamic artworks that address the complicated issues of time, memory, and reality. Although his electronic sculptures often engage personal themes, his work delivers a universal message. Through his innovative combinations of video and electronics, Campbell speaks to the myriad ways in which contemporary society is affected by technology.
Home Movies 300-3 screens amateur, low-resolution family films projected through a tapestry of LED lights. Strung from ceiling to floor, the highly pixilated reflections of family life become digital simulacra when magnified to such extremes. The result is a startling transportation through memory and present visual stimuli. A consistent thread that runs through Campbell’s work is this possibly unanswerable question: has digital perception elevated or mutated our inscriptions of the past?
