Charles Arnoldi’s raw, muscular style originates in his deep appreciation for the design elements inherent in nature. Through a fusion of abstract forms, landscape references, and organic materials such as tree branches, Arnoldi addresses the implications of reality versus representation. Inspired by media reports of the eruption of Mount Saint Helens in Washington, Arnoldi fixes raw branches—stripped of their bark—onto the chainsaw-bitten surface of wood panels. Painted with a frenzied starburst of color and loosely resembling a devastated landscape, embodies the potent energy of the volcanic eruption.
