Amy Kaufman incorporates numerous visual associations in her abstract paintings and drawings through a variety of shapes and forms, but primarily stripes. Inspired by patterns found in nature, Kaufman highlights the beauty and the imperfections of the natural world. In Paper, repeating vertical lines in varying shades of blue create a dynamic and mesmerizing pattern that suggests anything from tall stalks of grass to the gentle ripples of water. Although the associations are to nature, Kaufman avoids specific references in favor of encouraging viewers to make their own interpretations.
