Visual Politics: The Art of Engagement (2005-2006)

Al Farrow uses found objects to create sculptures that he refers to as reliquaries, which examine the relationship between war and religion. Skull Fragment of Heilige Krieg—or Holy War—combines old weaponry arranged in the form of a Nazi swastika. An original piece of the Berlin Wall and a human skull fragment are positioned over an authentic gas valve from a Nazi concentration camp. According to Farrow, "the atrocities committed in acts of war absolutely violate every tenet of religion, yet rarely do religious institutions speak against the violations committed in the name of God."
