Rahway, named after the East Jersey State Prison, is one of the largest prints Arnoldi ever made and took months of work to complete. He began by carving with a chainsaw the wooden plates that formed the basis of the prints. The plates were inked by hand over the course of several hours and then printed by the printmakers rubbing the backs of the plates with a traditional spoonlike tool. Each panel required up to thirty printings, and after many months passed and the series was still in production, Arnoldi joked that the print shop had become something of an “art prison.”
