SJMA Label Text

Label copy created for Visual Politics: The Art of Engagement (2005-2006)

Chester Arnold’s expressive landscape paintings portray our contemporary world on the verge of environmental catastrophe. Here Arnold paints a large-scale strip mine with terraced roadways and a toxic blue-green river discolored by tailings—residue from the ore—left over from the mining process.
