Character Studies: Clay from the Collection (2015-2016)

Like his other U.C. Davis contemporaries, Peter VandenBerge delights in quirky, lowbrow subjects, often using humor and unlikely scenarios to provoke his viewers. portrays a woman, a teapot balanced on her head, who appears to be dreaming of another, perhaps more adventurous life. The sailboat on the teapot and the various scenes painted along the base all offer numerous possibilities for interpreting the story behind her serene expression and fanciful dress.
